Cover Letter
I am keen to join the faculty to contribute back to the college and continue advancing medical education in surgery. Currently, I serve as a GMC associate in various capacities, including performance assessor and member of the Station Management Group. My roles extend to being a consultant orthopaedic surgeon and the clinical lead for trauma surgery in Chertsey, Surrey, as well as a professor at the University of East London. I am the executive medical director at the Smart Health Centre, where we are pioneering the use of artificial and machine intelligence to improve patient outcomes.
Professional Experience
My career has been marked by numerous opportunities that have strengthened my medical, clinical, and academic expertise. I have pursued fellowships globally, including trauma fellowships in Germany (AO Award) and at John Radcliff Hospital, Oxford, as well as fellowships in shoulder and elbow surgery at prestigious institutions such as Zurich University Hospitals and Stanford University. My first consultant post was at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals, after which I returned to Surrey as a consultant upper limb surgeon at the renowned Rowley Bristow Orthopaedic Unit in Chertsey.
Team Collaboration and Leadership
I have actively participated in multidisciplinary teams, proving to be a capable team player who can also work independently. As the principal investigator for more than 10 research projects, I led teams of scientists, doctors, and nurses to successful project completions, emphasizing the importance of prioritization, planning, mutual respect, and communication.
Academic Contributions
My academic contributions include more than 70 publications and numerous lectures at international meetings. I have also edited books on orthopaedics and currently oversee several research projects internationally. My editorial roles include positions at top orthopaedic journals and as an associate editor for the BMC group.
Educational Initiatives
Teaching remains a passion of mine, significantly aiding in training the next generation of doctors. My educational roles have been extensive, including supervisory positions and the development of postgraduate programs. I have also initiated health education projects in regions such as South Sudan, supported by organizations like UNICEF and the African Union.
Looking Ahead
The next phase of my research is focused on global responses to the COVID-19 pandemic, where I am leading multiple international initiatives to tackle this global challenge. These include the founding of MedDots Academy and the OrthoGlobe Collaborative.
